2-day weekend clinic, Santa Ynez , CA
A Matter of Timing: How to apply and release pressure more effectively when schooling horses on the ground and under saddle. With a few fundamental insights into the horse's natural response system, improve the quality of your communications while riding and on the ground.
This clinic will address questions such as:
* How can I get my horse to go more forward?
* How can I slow down or collect my horse without using too much rein contact?
* How can I make my horse more sensitive to lighter aids?
* How can I improve the timing of my aids and my horse's responses?
* How can I keep my horse motivated on a daily basis?
* How can I create a more joyful, rhythmic flow throughout all movements with my horse?
* How can I create a respectful, happy partnership with my horse on the ground and under saddle?

- See a horse demonstration and lecture about human-to-horse and horse-to-human body language as a prerequisite to working with your horse on the long-lines.
- Enjoy some hands-on work with your horse in the round pen. Learn how to guide your horse’s speed
and direction as means to establishing trust-based leadership principles.
- Communicate with your horse in your horse’s language. Experience a unique bonding experience that will deepen the relationship between you and your horse tremendously.
- Work your horse at liberty, with halter, then saddle and long-lines. Great experience for horse of all ages, backgrounds and breeds.
‘Longlining & Dressage: Connecting the Dots’ -- Part 2: Saturday, April 10
- Enjoy a horse demonstration and lecture about the connection of advanced longlining and working horses under saddle along the classical principles of dressage.
- Hands-on work will lead participants to working their horses in bridle, saddle and longlines.
- Learn how the aid system on the longlines corresponds to the rider’s aid system used for comm
unication under saddle.
- Find out how to introduce, improve and maintain your horse’s rhythm, suppleness, contact and balance.
- Add longlining to your training schedule to support your horse’s impulsion, straightness and collected work.
NERVOUS RIDER and SPOOKY HORSE CLINIC with Katja Elk, October 10 and November 14, 2009
2-part Dressage & Groundwork Clinic addressing “The Nervous Rider” +“The Spooky Horse,” Santa Ynez, CA
Part 1: “The Nervous Rider,” Saturday, October 10, at Double J Ranch, Santa Ynez, CA.
Lecture, horse demonstration and exercises for riders (horse-human/human-horse awareness, relaxation, breathing, horse and human psychology of fear-related matters), lunch and Q & A session for all participants.
Part 2: “The Spooky Horse,” Saturday, November 14, at Felicity Farm, Santa Ynez, CA.
Hands-on groundwork and/or riding. Riders bring their horses to apply some of the techniques learned during Part 1 (Nervous Rider) and to do some groundwork, desensitization and/or riding over obstacles of their choice.
